Once we had learnt how to cut the glass, we were next taught how to add colour to the glass. Our first technique: Decal.
Decal is basically coloured paper with a backing. When wet, the backing slides away and the paper can be put onto the glass. When fired, the colour is left and the paper burns away. It was a pretty easy technique to learn. The decal is left in warm water for a few seconds. Then, it's taken out and put on the glass, the backing paper being slid away. To remove all the excess water, we used a "kidney", a piece of rubber shaped like a kidney. This meant it was easy to remove any air bubbles and remove all of the water.
Although the technique was easy, we thought that the colour still looked blocky, and we decided not to use it further.
